what to expect
We realize dental treatment is always a little scary. We aim to make you feel as comfortable as possible. Read below to see what you can expect before, during and after your whitening session with Shine by Kellie!
Before & After Care
BEFORE YOUR SESSION
Once you have scheduled your appointment, you must fill out the Medical and Dental History under the forms section.
We will have a complimentary virtual assessment (via video chat or phone call) at a mutually agreed upon time. At this time we will review your health and dental history and decide if you are an ideal whitening candidate. Whitening is not for everyone and the amount your teeth are able to whiten is totally dependent on your teeth and habits. See FAQ’S page for more info and commonly asked questions. At this time, please allow me to answer any and all of your questions.
ON THE DAY OF YOUR APPOINTMENT:
I will ask you to please fill out the Client Consent and COVID screening form at least 2 hours before your appointment time. It can be found under the Forms Section.
When I arrive, I will check your temperature with a touchless thermometer, sanitize my hands and ask that you do the same. I will put on all necessary PPE and set up my equipment while we get to know each other.
I will start by brushing your teeth (you get to keep the toothbrush) followed by flossing to remove any debris that may prevent the whitening solution from penetrating your teeth. At this time I will provide any additional, client specific, complimentary oral hygiene instruction to maintain your healthiest smile. Note: Complimentary Oral Hygiene Instructions only for Diamond and Platinum Sessions.
Now your session is ready to start. This is the best part! You are now in relax mode. Kick your feet up, watch some TV, or listen to a podcast, music, an audiobook, meditation, whatever you want! I will insert the cheek retractors at this time, apply the barrier to protect your gums and then the whitening gel will be applied and the light will be placed over the gel for the selected amount of time, depending on which session you chose. Note: barrier is only required for Diamond and Platinum sessions. Should you require it for the Crystal session, let me know.
A pair of blue light blocking sunglasses will be provided during your session to protect your eyes from the bright light.
AFTER CARE:
This is very important to achieve and maintain your best results.
After your whitening session is complete, drink only water for the first hour. Then it is imperative to avoid certain foods and drinks (listed below) for a minimum of 24 HOURS UP TO 48 HOURS. Stick to a "white diet". If it could stain a white shirt, avoid it. Brush with white toothpaste and avoid coloured mouth wash for the first day.
WHAT NOT TO EAT/DRINK:
- coffee, tea, red wine, coloured pop or coloured alcoholic beverages and fruit juices, chocolate, berries (or any fruit as it is more acidic and may cause your teeth to retain stains more), red meats, soy sauce, tomato sauces, etc
- avoid smoking
It's uncommon with this product, but should you have any sensitivity, brush with Sensodyne Rapid Relief and/or apply it to your tray and wear for 5 minutes.
Professional touch ups are recommended every 4-6 months to keep your smile shining!
You may also purchase the Multi-use Whitening Gel for at home maintenance. It is safe for daily use.
